At the age of 89, this lady was living alone in a care facility without the presence of her children or any member of her family, a strange 31-year-old neighbor reached out to her and offered to take care of her in his home.
Chris Salvatore met Norma Cook and her cat Hermes back in 2013 when he first moved to his new apartment, they become friends and he was always there to help her with anything and in no time they become close. What started with a hello ended with a beautiful relationship.
However, she become very ill and they took her to a hospital. Yet when she wanted to go home they didn’t let her because her health needs 24/7 assistance and she lives alone. So it is impossible for her to leave the hospital.
When he heard the news Chris gave his all to help Norma get back home, in less than 7 hours he managed to raise 25.000 dollars by creating a GoFundMe page. A month passed and they collected 50.000 dollars but it won’t help them to provide 24-hour healthcare services.
Chris told Today “The only other option was for her to go into a facility. I just couldn’t do that to someone who is like my own grandmother.”
The only right thing for Chris to do is to invite his neighbor to live with him.
He said, “I’m so happy I was able to give her this gift of living her last days at home, I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through the end of your life at a hospital without your friends or pets.”
In February 2017, sadly Norma died but she died knowing that someone loved her and took good care of her in her last days.
Fans heard the news on Chris’s Instagram where he is regularly posting videos and photos of him and Norma having fun and watching TV.
When talking about Norma, Chris said “She called me the grandson she never had,”
Chris is a kind, loving gentleman. I hope he will find happiness whenever and wherever he goes.
