This story is about a loving husband who thought of the perfect gift for his wife’s 40th birthday. He decided to pay for 40 pet adoptions because he knew how much she cared for animals.
This couple is Andrew and Jennifer Duhe. For over a year, they have been two members at Chesapeake Animal Services, and their love and care for animals is unmatched.
While laughing, Jennifer said, “We have fun, and it doesn’t just help the animals. I think it really helps us. It’s like a cheap, cost-effective alternative to marriage therapy,”
The couple not only helps animal shelters, but they also have pets. Sadly, they lost one of their beloved dogs and it’s been so hard for them.
Jennifer said: “We’re still kind of in the coping phase; I’ve had a kind of a hard time dealing with that.”
While his wife is depressed by the loss, Andrew comes up with the idea of paying for 40 pet adoptions for her 40th birthday.
Andrew had this to say about his wife and her love for animals: “My wife’s love for animals is really, I’d say above and beyond,Trying to find something that was meaningful and practical and everything. And as much work as we do here, it kind of hit close to home for us. We just wanted to really do something great and also to show how wonderful she is as a person too.”
At Chesapeake Animal Services, there are a lot of animals—40 to be exact—so in honor of Jennifer’s milestone birthday, Andrew covered the 40 pet adoption fees.
“I had gotten with Miss Casey, the volunteer coordinator, and I initially asked how many kennels we had. Conveniently, there are actually 40 dog kennels, so I thought it was fitting,40 kennels and a 40th birthday, they went hand in hand.” Andrew stated.
This generous gift cost about $4,000; ten pet adoptions have been covered so far, and Jennifer loved it.
“It is so nice to know that he just understood in my heart,” Jennifer added. “That’s what I value most, you know, and he’s supportive enough to even do a gesture like that, which was very big. And it just really meant a lot.”
